Strange & disturbing things, and Links of the day.

I found this whilst looking for resources on bisexuality: the soc.bi FAQ in haiku. I know quite a few of you are obsessed with haiku, so I pass it on.

Meanwhile, jamese has been getting some very odd spam: Time travellers please help!

And quiet000001 has written some hot, hot NSync slash. And I don't even like NSync or fancy any of them!

I took the Which Powerpuff Girls character are you? test and discovered that I am Buttercup, even though my most prized possession is an octopus! In other "finding out things about myself that I didn't know" (sarc) vein, I discovered that my battle cry is MEEP!

I had an erotic dream about a friend of mine this morning, and I feel vaguely guilty about it. It wasn't a surprise to have the dream because I already know I fancy him, but in real life he's profoundly monogamous. So I feel guilty to have "corrupted" him, even though (a) it was a dream and (b) I have absolutely no control over what I dream about. Where this fits into my fondness for slash is an interesting point. Ah well.

What a difference 12 hours make...

Damn, it's 4.30am already and I promised myself I'd go to bed at 4. Still not tired, though. I seem to have got into a pattern of going to bed at 6am and waking up around 4 or 5pm, which would be fine except that I have to be at work at 1.30. Ugh.

Last night I was up ridiculously late because I was stressed out about going to the dentist. Like a lot of people, I have a fear of dentists. Except that mine is totally irrational - my teeth and gums have always been fairly healthy and I've never had a dentist-related traumatic experience. I don't know where the fear comes from - and yet it's clearly there. After avoiding the dentist for 3 years, I finally made an appointment because (a) the pain I get in one tooth was bad enough that I thought I should get it checked out, and (b) I'm sick of having tooth-falling-out nightmares.

So the wolfy took her fangs to the fang doctor, and he said they are strong and good for biting. (Thorough looking and prodding and x-rays showed nothing wrong with that tooth - it must be referred pain from sinuses). And the sun was shining even though it was 9.30am - a warm, yellow light that, though bright, didn't hurt the eyes. Much better than the harsh white light we get in winter. And the wolfy felt happy and comforted.

There are still lots of things I've been meaning to post and not got round to, but my left elbow is hurting for no apparent reason, and I don't want to type any more. Time for chocolate (soy) milk and bed.

Request for livejournal geekage.

mmmmm... I have chocolate milk. Ok, it's soya milk - but still yummy with Crusha milkshake syrup. The bottle said I should dilute 1 part syrup to 7 parts milk - who are they trying to kid?

Anyway, I have a request for all the geeks of maths, graphics and code-writing out there. I suppose that narrows things down rather, but feel free to link to this post if you think you know people who might be interested. I have a problem with livejournal, and I need some help to fix it.

You see, I use colours to help me better keep track of who's writing what on my friends page. My default style for friends is one that I created specially with coloured strips along the left-hand edge of people's posts. You'd be amazed how much more quickly I can skim using this. Now, I want to add some more people to my friends list, but I have run out of colour combinations.

What I want firstly is for someone to produce a web page showing all of the sensible colour combinations of the standard 256 colour "web-safe" palette. I emphasise the word sensible for a good reason. Whilst I could work out how many colour combinations there are just by using factorials, what I'm interested in is the number of useful combinations. For example, dark blue on dark green will not produce a legible result. Then, when I have this, I or someone else will be able to work out the number of combinations that are dissimilar enough to be useful for my purpose - there are only so many yellow on green combinations that are distinguishable at a quick glance. Then, I'll be able to recolour my friends list so as to be able to use my friends page usefully again.

Does this make sense? I imagine I've not explained it very well, so feel free to ask for clarification.
