I run into that at work a lot -- I'm usually wearing black jeans, black shoes, black socks, and a non-black but dark work-appropriate top, often wine or some other deep red. And I often have to go drawing under desks or other things which require me actually lying down on the floor. Also, our floor is concrete and there's always a bunch of concrete dust everywhere. It doesn't mix very well, really.

Neither is helping someone paint their house in blue and red

I still have red paint on my old pair of boots and blue and red on one of my T-shirts ;-) ...

Grey? I have a pair of jeans that is pretty close to the exact colour of dead skin dust that builds up on hard floors. Do I remember to wear them, though? No!

I bought Richard a sweatshirt years ago which says "I'm only wearing black until they make something darker", which I think is a neater statement.

I've never understood why I see such a preponderance of black clothing at Burning Man for this precise reason.... (Though it did lead to the charming sight one year of a gentleman carefully cleaning his leather jeans with baby wipes before entering the throng at a BDSM camp.)
